London Referral Centre

September 9, 2013

Mum’s the Word is based in the inner London borough of Islington. As well as collecting clothing to be distributed to children abroad, we now work to provide our borough’s vulnerable children with clothing on a referral basis.

Cases in need are referred to us by Islington social services and other local trusted agencies. Most cases we have referred are for newborns and most also need equipment also such as cots, blankets, prams, moses baskets.

We were surprised to learn that Islington council say that 45% of the boroughs children live in poverty. This equates to 18,000 children and is the second highest rate in the country.

We are so excited about working with families locally as well as abroad and we have a fantastic small team of volunteers helping us carry out this work in Islington.

If you feel you are eligible for referral please mention us to your keyworker and they can get the process started for you.

If you feel you would like to help us and join our volunteers then please get in touch at lindsey@mumsthewordcharity.co.uk

We hope to establish this service in Islington and then roll out the scheme across London and beyond as time progresses. There are so many children on our doorstep in need.

Here is a little pic of our home in Islington at the moment. Lots of boxes of beautiful clothing ready to go out!!
